What is M-ASS?

M-ASS is the Student Society dedicated to any student enrolled in an Arts subject. We are a not-for-profit body - any money we make is put straight back into the events we run, to make your time spent studying Arts as entertaining and super-fun-filled as possible!

To bask in the ridiculously good-looking...ness of M-ASS members at our fabulous events, check out our Facebook page. Or, to peruse our delicious calendar of orientation activities, see the Orientation page. Should you wish to excite yourself generally with details of upcoming M-ASS events, you might click on over to the Events section.

Observe our Sponsors page for info on the great companies affiliated with M-ASS. The Feedback page is where you can tell us what you really think (even without your own email address). Our illustrious (yet terribly modest) Committee is here as well, with some useful Links to the Faculty of Arts (with whom we are affiliated) and other useful University of Melbourne sites.

We hope you have enjoyed the tasty treat that is the M-ASS website and gathered lots of useful information along the way. Don't forget to love these splendiforous pages with regularity throughout the year, thereby ensuring you don't miss any of our events or ridiculously obscure polls.

Our Aims

M-ASS is the student body for Arts students. Our aims (according to our constitution) are:

  1. to facilitate greater interaction amongst students in the Faculty of Arts,

  2. to provide students in the Faculty of Arts with additional resources for academic and/or graduate employment needs, and

  3. to enhance communication and consultation between the Faculty of Arts and its respective students.

Based on these aims, M-ASS runs a variety of events for students enrolled in Arts subjects. We are a not-for-profit body - any money we make goes straight back into events for students.

In terms of our first objective, we feel that first year students in particular are important, thus our O-Week activities and the annual O-Camp. We cater to later year students also with the rest of our activities during the year such as many a free BBQ, our Trivia night, our River Cruise, regular M-ASSive Night Outs, and the illustrious Arts Ball. This year, M-ASS has a new, bigger, better, invigorated program, so make sure you attend as many M-ASS events as possible for a great year!

Current projects M-ASS is engaged in regarding our second objective are a "First Year Handbook", Annual Essay Competition, Careers resources, M-ASS organised LLSU Study and Citation tutes and the Public speaking event with SSS. If you have any suggestions, please email education@m-assonline.com or use our feedback form.

M-ASS has recently been working particularly closely with the Faculty of Arts, however we are unable to represent the interests of students to them unless we know what students think. The Faculty is great to work with and the people who work there are all amazingly receptive to student ideas, so if you have suggestions of how Arts could work better for you, email education@m-assonline.com, your relevant year level representative or use our feedback form to make suggestions. All suggestions are gratefully received.

Our Constitution

M-ASS again updated its Constitution to reflect the VSU changes and rename some positions on the Committee! It is now fully in force and can be downloaded from here. The Constitution defines M-ASS, explains how M-ASS and the M-ASS Committee run, and embodies other rules for M-ASS's operation and activities. If you're thinking of running for the M-ASS Committee, be sure to take a look.
